In the vast expanse of the universe, darkness permeates space above and below, asking us to reconsider its significance beyond conventional perceptions. Donna Haraway proposes humus over humans. Its parables depict the underworld as a place devoid of the life-giving rays of the sun that urge us to explore the depths of darkness, where humanity intertwines with the natural world as symbionts in a shared process.
There has to be smth in the room creates a space where we – human beings altogether – can imagine ourselves as these symbionts and get into uncovering pearls of possible worlds that exist inside us. Slowly we tackle these pearls with senses, soft touch, a gentle inhale, or swift glimpse. In this room, one is invited to use their entire body as tentacles and perceive the world through touch, feeling and trying things out. If we think of our bodies as tentacles, we can imagine the other, the non-human.
The exhibition invites artists who work with potential of posthumanist worlds that we could inhabit, embracing the dark and everything that comes with it: Natália Sýkorová examines the boundaries between human and non-human as well as natural and artificial. Her installations and performances invite us to a trans-corporeal experience. Jung Min Lee focuses her paintings on post-apocalyptic narratives told through a science fiction-inspired imagination. Stanislav Zábrodský uses his objects as a metaphorical lens that serve as a reflection on the temporality of existence and our place within it.
With ONEIRIC SPACE, the research platform exploring the interplay between dreams and waking life at an individual and collective level, we can delve into our intimate realms and reflect on the nature of dreams and dreaming. And finally, with the immersive and sensitive approach of the artist duo František Hanousek & Jakub Hájek one can get lost in the maze they created and forget the outer world ever existed.

In den unermesslichen Weiten des Universums durchdringt die Dunkelheit alle Bereiche und ersucht uns, ihre Bedeutung jenseits konventioneller Wahrnehmungen zu erkunden. Donna Haraway schlägt vor, die Menschheit als Humus zu begreifen. Viele Analogien, die die Unterwelt als einen Ort ohne die lebensspendenden Strahlen der Sonne beschreiben, ermutigen uns, die Tiefen der Dunkelheit zu erforschen, in denen die Menschheit mit ihrer Umwelt symbiotisch in einem gemeinschaftlichen Prozess verwoben ist.
There has to be smth in the room möchte einen Ort schaffen, an dem wir – menschliche Wesen – uns selbst als diese Symbiont*innen vorstellen und uns auf die Entdeckung möglicher perlenförmiger Welten in uns selbst einlassen können. Behutsam nähern wir uns diesen Perlen mit den Sinnen, mit zarter Berührung, sanftem Einatmen oder flüchtigen Blicken. Hier ist es möglich, den eigenen Körper als Tentakeln zu verstehen, mit denen sich die Welt durch Berühren, Fühlen und Erkunden erschließen lässt. Durch die Betrachtung unserer Körper als Tentakel können wir uns dem Anderen, dem Nichtmenschlichen, annähern.
Die Ausstellung lädt Künstler*innen ein, die sich mit den Möglichkeiten posthumanistischer Welten beschäftigen, die wir bewohnen könnten, wenn wir uns auf die Dunkelheit und alles, was sie mit sich bringt, einließen: Natália Sýkorová untersucht die Schnittstellen zwischen menschlichem und nicht-menschlichem Leben sowie zwischen Natur und Künstlichkeit. Ihre Installationen und Performances laden uns zu einer körperübergreifenden Erfahrung ein. Jung Min Lee konzentriert sich in ihren Gemälden auf postapokalyptische Erzählungen, die aus einer von Science-Fiction inspirierten Perspektive erzählt werden. Stanislav Zábrodský verwendet seine Objekte als bildhafte Linse, um über die Zeitlichkeit von Existenz und unseren Platz darin nachzudenken. ONEIRIC SPACE ist eine Rechercheplattform, die das Zusammenspiel von Traum und Wachleben auf individueller und kollektiver Ebene erforscht und uns einen Rahmen bietet, in dem wir eigene intime Welten erforschen und über das Wesen von Traum und Träumen nachdenken können.
