ABOUT
Both a signal of warning and summoning, the remote sound of Bells serves as a cue to engage with the work of Antonia Christl, Dani & Sheilah ReStack, and Renato Settembre. Somewhere in between ritual and catastrophe, violent coincidence and the intimate surfaces of our ordinary lives, the works gathered in this exhibition each in their own way face a contemporary environment without asserting a detached position. Here, making oneself vulnerable is a necessary step in order to confront questions of accountability by exploring possible registers of experience. In the words of Sheilah ReStack, this has to do with “that simultaneous capacity – signalling joy or warning.” Following this line of thought, the exhibition Bells is not a wake-up call. Instead, it brings together artistic practices that attend to the vacancies between subjective and collective desires, and thereby reveal that we’re always already in the thing that we call for and that calls us.
