    DJ JAAKKO EINO KALEVI
    Combining synth-pop, folk, funk, and psych-rock into trippy experimental pop, multi-instrumentalist Jaakko Eino Kalevi grew up in Jyväskylä, a city in central Finland. He began making music as a boy after discovering Dream Theaters prog-metal and hip-hop, teaching himself how to play guitar and use beat-making software before exploring reggae, disco, techno, and more. Kalevi issued a string of releases reflecting his omnivorous musical taste, including 2010s coldwave-inspired album Modern Life and 2013s hazy, fittingly named Dreamzone EP. The following year, he released the disco homage Yin Yang Theatre, an EP on DJ Tim Sweeneys Beats in Space label. His 2015 self-titled album arrived via the Domino imprint Weird World.

    ABOUT

    BEASTIE RESPOND [Copenhagen]
    Since debuting with the EP “Syncopy” back in 2011, Beastie Respond has re-invented his sound with every release, moving from the moody drum’n’bass of his debut EP into more colourful realms. On “Information City” Beastie Respond presents a stylistically unchained work, drawing on a wide array of sounds while reflecting upon an increasingly digitized society with endlessly expanding data pools and digital realities. Beastie Respond is mainly known for his releases on Teal Recordings and appearances on Circle Vision, dBridge’s Exit Records and Loxy’s Cylon Recordings. Expect an ADHD-fuelled melting pot of sounds and unreleased productions in Beastie Respond’s ever-eclectic DJ sets!

    GALAXIAN [Glasgow, Live]
    Seeking to challenge perceptions of self, society and being through a helter-skelter vortex of unsettling rhythmic convulsions and incendiary electronic collages. Releases on labels including Last Known Trajectory. Lower Parts and (solo as well as in collaboration with DJ Stingray) on Shipwrec are both distinctive, remarkably vital and have further cemented Galaxian’s reputation for pushing boundaries in unexpected and exciting new directions. A provocative visual style, political and philosophical attitude further submerge the listener in Galaxian’s visions and ideas. Kitted out in trademark helmet and mask, as if to foresee a collapse of the current social fabric, his live shows are dripping with raw energy and atmosphere generating an immersive experience which commands attention. April this year saw the release of the “Blowback” EP on Foul-Up, Galaxian’s widest ranging release thus far with dance floor ready cuts side-by-side with Galaxian’s lesser known (but equally intricate) experimental tunes. Late 2017 promises a new EP on Helena Hauff’s Return To Disorder.

    CERA KHIN [Berlin]
    From Berlin via Tunis, Cera Khin has quickly made a name for herself as a Selectress & DJ that can find the finest thread between disparate sounds, connecting the dots between Modern club & Experimental music as well as Musique Concrète, Dub & Dancehall styles in an effortless way. Bored of mindless club-attitude, Cera is not afraid to take her spirited approach to the dancefloor, and she has been invited to play at Berlin’s finest parties as well as respected international events such as Bristol’s Young Echo Sound and Milan’s Macao venue, to name a few. She also transmits her unique style and selection via her monthly residency on the airwaves of Bristol’s Noods Radio, as well as guest appearances on London’s NTS Radio & Rinse FM, Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio, The Hague’s Intergalactic FM and local stations Cashmere and Berlin Community Radio.

    MISANTROP [Berlin]
    Danish-born and Berlin-based Misantrop is the founder of Foul-Up, having initiated the label with his debut EP “Limerence” in late 2016. Misantrop’s music aims to defy singularity, drawing from all over contemporary music and noise grounds – building upon the past but mostly sidestepping solid amalgamations.
    Sets by Misantrop keep listeners alert by placing them at the centre of his stylistic chaos and taking them on a unique exploration of a extensive sonic territory.

    Das Punckrock-Outfit Belgrad präsentiert sein selbstetiteltes Debütalbum im ACUD Club.

    //

    ABOUT

    BELGRAD
    … wurde Anfang 2015 von Rosenkranz und Leopoldowitsch, die schon vorher miteinander gearbeitet hatten, gegründet, als sie zusammen auf einer mehrwöchigen Osteuropareise waren. Doch sie sollten mit ihren Ideen nicht lange alleine bleiben. Ein paar Monate später hatten die beiden mehrere Songs zusammen und suchten sich mit Stephan Mahler am Schlagzeug (u.a. Slime) und Ronnie Henseler am Bass (u. a. KOMMANDO-SONNENMILCH) prominente, musikalische Unterstützung.

    Zwei Generationen, drei Städte in Ost und West, Widersprüche als Chance: Wohnhaft in Berlin, Dresden und Hamburg und künstlerisch sozialisiert in verschiedenen subkulturellen Szenen vereint die Band BELGRAD unterschiedliche Sichtweisen. Ein vielschichtiger musikalischer Background, der sich widerspiegelt in den Bands, in denen die vier Musiker bereits vor ihrer Begegnung aktiv waren: Stalin vs. Band, Dikloud, Slime, Torpedo Moskau, Kommando Sonne-nmilch, um nur einige zu nennen. Aus den gemeinsamen Aufnahmesessions entwickelte sich dann fast nebenher und unwillkürlich das erste, selbstbetitelte Album auf dem Hamburger Label Zeitstrafe.

    ABOUT

    LIVIA RITA
    … has developed her own eclectic musical style together with composer and producer Tom McLuckie drawing on a wide range of influences and genres spanning electronic, pop, experimental, classical and new wave styles. She subverts the listeners with each song, as wild, brutal textures meet vulnerable, otherworldly melodies in adventurous and emotional ways.

    Livia Rita explores more avant-garde ways of performing her synthesiser drenched music through a strong visual identity; formed of bespoke costumes, theatrical staging and stylised movement created by herself; realised by dancers. Together, it collides into a 4D explosion of art; a surreal live music video that straddles fantasy and reality, capable of intoxicating audiences with the exploration of love, freedom, dreams and progressive thinking. The audience is lured into Livias mind, and is taken on a journey to gain ownership over the future. This work was developed at the Barbican in London and in Switzerland. // FacebookInstagram

    ABOUT

    Für das Bergfest des Monats der zeitgenössischen Musik hat das ACUD ein spannendes Programm zusammengestellt, bei dem nicht nur gehört, sondern auch getanzt werden kann: Hacklander / Hatam ist ein Drum- und Elektronik-Duo von Colin Hacklander und Farahnaz Hatam. Ihr Interesse gilt rhythmischer Stabilität und ihre Abwesenheit, der Tiefe radikaler Material-Heteronomie im zeitgenössischen Kapitalismus und der Natur unserer Konditionierung. Sie verstehen Ton als plastisches Material und Klang als Medium für Ideen: digitale Klangsynthese mit SuperCollider. Abgelöst werden sie am späteren am Abend von Giovanni Civitenga. Er ist der Kopf hinter dem Berliner Label S K Y A P N E A und der gleichnamigen Radiosendung auf NTS, in der er regelmäßig Gäste einlädt und mit ihnen Visionen eines eindringlichen Sounds verbreitet.

    //

    To mark the halfway point of the Month of Contemporary Music, ACUD has prepared an exciting evening where one can not only listen to music but also dance to it. Music for the mind and the body. Hacklander / Hatam is the hard hitting drum and electronics duo from Colin Hacklander and Frahnaz Hatam. Interested in transparency, liberation, rhythmic stability & its absence, the depth of radical material heteronomy in contemporary capitalism & the nature of our mobilised conditioning; sound as sculptural material; sound as a medium in which ideas are communicated; digital sound synthesis with SuperCollider; drums, percussion & gongs. They will then make way for Giovanni Civitenga, who will take control of the decks. Founder of the Berlin label S K Y A P N E A he also has a radio program on NTS which goes by the same name, inviting guests and exploring their idea of immersive sound.

    SOUNDING IMAGES #9: EYE AND EAR CONTROL

    SOUNDING IMAGES #9: EYE AND EAR CONTROL

    Free jazz is frenetic, hypnotic, disorienting. At its very inception in the 1960s, it was a rallying cry for self-actualization and emancipation, not just from traditional cultural values and aesthetics, but from a repressive, racist and sexist social hierarchy. Although most closely associated with the burgeoning Afrocentric and Afrofuturist cultural arms of the US civil rights movement, the radical sounds and attitudes of the so-called New Thing would come to resonate far beyond its original context.

    In this installment of Sounding Images, New York Eye and Ear Control by Canadian film-maker Michael Snow will be screened in 16mm original, with an introduction by Zoë Harris, looking at avant-garde jazz in the 1960s and 70s and its representation in film, with special interest in the use of improvisation and deconstruction as radical formal and political operations in audio and/or visual practice.

    //

    ABOUT

    “New York Eye and Ear Control is ‘about’ what this is about. It was very carefully, I might say, (to get your sympathy) painfully composed. This could be
    as arbitrary
    as something
    found or bought
    or something
    done while high or done by someone else.” (Michael Snow)

    Michael Snow is a Canadian filmmaker, artist, and musician, considered one of the pioneers of North American experimental cinema and structuralist film in the 1960s. He is perhaps most celebrated for his works Wavelength (1967) and La région centrale (1971). But Snow’s commitment to an expanded artistic practice is best illustrated by New York Eye and Ear Control (1964), a film featuring a two-dimensional cutout feminine silhouette navigating “real” 3-D environments. Its soundtrack widely considered to be one of the seminal free jazz recordings. Snow had been active in the avant-garde jazz scene, primarily as a pianist, and the ensemble he initiated for the film is a veritable who’s who of luminaries: Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, Sunny Murray, Gary Peacock, Roswell Rudd, and John Tchicai. Even the “Walking Woman” figure featured on film is based on the likeness of another friend, jazz pianist Carla Bley.

    The series SOUNDING IMAGES focuses on different approaches to documenting and visualizing musical performances, scenes and movements as well as close collaborations between filmmakers and composers, including soundtracks. The aim of it is to open up a wide range of perspectives on the interrelation of music, experimental filmmaking, and video art, including issues regarding race, class, sexuality and gender. Invited guests will discuss selected works and a short introduction to each screening will provide background information, sometimes a Q&A will follow.

    KINGDOM OF FROGS – GEORGIAN VIDEO ART

Afterwards there’ll be drinks and some sound impressions of hyper modernism and neo traditionalism
