Cameron Stallones always had his thing for reggae music. For his highly celebrated project Sun Araw he combined Krautrock, Reggae, Funk and Afrobeat. Together with Jamaican vocal group The Congos and experimentalist M. Geddes Gengras he recorded the album “Icon Give Thank” in 2012. With Gengras he soon after started the label DUPPY GUN PRODUCTIONS through which they put out their collaborations with the Portmore scene. The label dropped the compilation “Multiply/Earth” and the EP “Fresh Clipp’d.”
At ACUD Club Stallones and Gengras will perform as DUPPY GUN SOUNDSYSTEM together with Jamaican vocalist I Jahbar. To give you a first impression of what to expect, the two musicians compiled a playlist for our blog featuring their most favorite reggae tunes of the moment. Enjoy with us five steps to the full Duppy Gun experience!
FIRST STEP: CONSECRATE THE DANCE FLOOR
“Deep mournful roots killer meditating on the cost of constant warfare.”
SECOND STEP: SET THE TERMS AND DEMANDS
“Jigsy king spells it out, nobody hates this song ever.”
THIRD STEP: ESTABLISH THE ENERGY
“A totally slapping tokers anthem with a strong timbaland look.”
FOURTH STEP: EXPOSE THE DUPP
“A tripped/dripped remix from a track we produced for the first DUPPY lp ‘MULTIPLY’, Lukan-I wiggles around a shifting feature of collapsing drum loops and wheezing synthesizers.”
FIFTH STEP: LEAVE THEM IN PIECES
“This never fails to tear down a room (especially when it’s filled with Americans in their 20’s/30’s) and Ghost remains of the the all-time greatest sweetheart killers of the JA scene. Combining two unlikely perfect partners makes this tune the dancehall reese’s peanut butter cup.”
