Against The World

ACUD STUDIO 20h → Book Launch & Talk

Join us to celebrate the English-language launch of Jan Brandt's weighty 882-page novel AGAINST THE WORLD, translated by Katy Derbyshire.

Heavy metal and church choirs, soap operas and sun cream, Nazis and aliens abound in this story of a north German village in the 80s and 90s. Secret codes, crop circles, invisible paint, political and sexual conspiracies, plus innovative writing and typographical features add up to a novel compared to Dostoyevsky and Thomas Mann on its original German publication in 2011.

The Guardian's Philip Oltermann will be talking to author and translator about the book and how they worked on it. Followed by traditional chitchat over drinks (cash bar) in the ACUD Studio. Feel free to dress appropriately - the best Heavy Metal outfit wins a free copy.
