IN THE MOUNTAINS is a Festival of the collaborative platform for artists from the Caucasus region who are active in the fields of art and human rights and the CYNETART platform of the Trans-Media-Akademie Hellerau.
IN THE MOUNTAINS is one of the first cultural bottom-up festival from the Caucasus region that is willing to experiment with collectiveness and collaboration on queer and feminist issues across the conflict divides which have deepened the fractures between communities for the past 30 years, with the cultural sphere of each country often being instrumentalized for nationalist propaganda. This is even more so with regard to the struggles faced by the queer and feminist communities in the region, where lingering divisions prevent effective joint strategies to respond to the current challenges and the rising authoritarianism.
The festival will take place on 11-12-13 September 2024 at ACUD space, showcasing film screenings, panel discussions, drag shows, performances, community gatherings: its focus is the manifold process of mutation that the Caucasus region is going through, how it affects queer and feminist rights, and how to create a transnational community practice to respond to the current challenges.
