Music Pool Berlin Community Evening #16 - Music Publishing And Licensing Music To Film, Games, Ads, Tv

ACUD CLUB 19h30 → Talk & Club Night & Concert

David O'Bryan works across the record label and music publishing side of the Ninja Tune (http://ninjatune.net/) label. When pioneering producers Coldcut started the British record label Ninja Tune in 1990 they thought it would be a good idea to start a publishing company too, so they created Just Isn’t Music (http://www.justisntmusic.com) to publish the Ninja Tune releases. Today JIM’s catalogue comprises the vast majority of the Ninja Tune repertoire and several more.

In this Music Pool evening, David will talk about the basics of what a music publisher does, and specifically - how he approaches music sync, i.e. licensing music for films, games, ads or TV from a publisher's perspective. He will talk about the briefs he receives from music users, how he selects songs, and what he looks for in a song to suit a particular audiovisual use. He will share how he approaches music users, from music supervisors to film makers to ad agencies to games companies, and how music sync works differently for the various media formats.

Cindy Kramer of BMG Rights Management (http://www.bmg.com/) will share how she works with her US American colleagues in pitching music to US based clients. And will talk a bit more about the tasks of a music publisher.

Yasmine Gallus of Budde Musikverlag (http://www.buddemusic.de/) will complete the overview with her experience working for an Indie music publisher and share some insights working on the German market.
