Aristotle called a medium that makes visible diaphanous (to diaphanês, diaphainein, to show through). The project diaphanous | diaphan by Jiyoung Yoon transfers this idea into an artistic installation. Visitors are actors whose bodily presence and sensitive experiences complete the light and sound installation. Limits of space dissolve, the certainty of architecture disappears, a new spatiality can be experienced.
Starting point for the performative installation diaphanous | diaphan is the book “Das Diaphane. Architektur und ihre Bildlichkeit” (The Diaphane. Architecture and its Imageness; transcript 2020) edited by Ulrike Kuch, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The book includes contributions by scholars and artists from various disciplines who shed a light on the diaphane and its relation to architecture.
Book presentation and installation will take place June 8, 2022, at 7 pm at ACUD Studio.
