Since the 50th anniversary of World Roma Day on 8th April 2021, the 2nd Roma Biennale with the title WE ARE HERE! explores different aspects of BEING HERE from the perspective of the racialised, oppressed and marginalised in five different phases:
Self-confession, Resistance and Resilience, Survival, Remembrance and finally the very fact of existence.
On 24th October 2021, on the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the inauguration of the Memorial to the Murdered Sinti and Roma of Europe, the Biennale will be formally concluded. Around 50 artists make clear with their posters, videos, poems and music: WE ARE HERE! – Despite colonialism and its continuities in so-called racial science, despite National Socialism and the genocides, and despite today's Antigypsyism, Anti-Semitism and racism.
