Experimental Venues Worldwide presents: Khabat Abas & Hardi Kurda
LINE UP
Khabat Abas is an experimental cellist and improviser from Kurdistan Iraq. She grew up in an environment that was shattered by conflict and war. It was in this environment that she learnt to play the cello. She performed with various ensembles, including the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, ensemble for contemporary music in Malmö and Non-Ensemble for experimental music.
Hardi Kurda is composer, sound artist, improviser and PhD candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London. Hardi’s works focuses on questioning the politics of composition and listening through found scores. It is an already existed composition of data and information from everyday materials and objects that selects through speculative listening. A specific listening experience when Hardi explored in the time of crisis, during his illegal journey to Europe in 2002. He listened frequently for four days to radio frequencies to find an alternative world, which was urgent and illegal. Therefore, he experiments with radio and frequencies as an instrument, score and sound materials for his works to create other listening experiences.
