About

Hosted in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, the Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival is the first of its kind in China and an all-encompassing cultural event to promote science fiction and filmmaking. Held on an annual basis, the week-long event provides a platform for film professionals, scientists, Sci-fi and film fans, and technology enthusiasts to share ideas and inspiration. The first edition of the festival, held in November 2019, saw more than 180 films from around the world submitted for competition, with 40 selected for screening.

The festival also featured a series of forums, panel discussions, and masterclasses, exploring a range of hot issues related to Sci-fi film production. This included the future of Asian Sci-fi cinema in a global context, Sci-fi film investment and valuation, education and promotion of science and technology, and the ethics of science and technology. The film festival also featured exhibitions highlighting the development of Chinese aerospace technology and special effects.

This year, we look forward to an updated and expanded 2nd Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival in September, exploring new frontiers of Sci-fi filmmaking through innovative ideas and forward-thinking. The event is set to draw wider international participation, more people around the world to share the excitement and inspiration of new developments in Sci-fi.

Ahead of this, the audience for this exclusive event in Berlin will be treated to a screening of eight outstanding short sci-fi short films from the 1st Blue Planet competition. This will include the winner “Manivelle:Last Days of The Man of Tomorrow”, a Lebanese-German co-production partially shot right here in Berlin.
Do join us for the night and let imagination and innovation take your breath away. With “Blue Planet,” the universe is the limit.
