ABOUT

Queer Arab Barty
... presents a safe(r) space for queer Arabs to explore our identities, independent from the mainstream attempts to homogenise and/or erase our existence. This is an opportunity to celebrate and release your inner Haifas, Nancys and of course, your Nawals.

Queer Arab Barty is a dance party celebration to the tunes of 80’s/90’s/00’s Arabic pop/dance/cabaret. Sherihan did not sacrifice her whole career so you could dance to Omar Souleyman.

We will not be appropriated, tokenised, or fetishised, so please keep the following house rules in mind before you attend our space :

NO queerphobia,
NO transphobia,
NO Islamophobia,
NO anti-semitism,
NO ableism,
NO cultural appropriation,
NO non-consensual touching,
NO photography inside,
RESPECT the space.

Oh, and:

Check your magic carpet at the door
Arab chasers are canceled
Si Sayyed Machos are also canceled
Camel valet unavailable due to city restrictions
Shaving body hair is discouraged
Leave your flags above your beds

If the terms Arab and Queer relate to you on some level, you are more than welcome to party with us! We encourage you to come, dress up, and shake it. Allies of queer Arabs are also very welcome, however, playing on anti-Arab stereotypes, dressing in Orientalist garb, or making anyone feel uncomfortable will result in an immediate dismissal from the party ☠️

*It is important to elaborate on our decision to refer to the party as Queer ‘Arab’. As a group, we are aware of the many identities existing from Morocco to Iraq known as the “Arab World” with a variety of ethnicities, religions, languages, cultural backgrounds, and identities. As a community, we consciously wish to celebrate this diversity amongst us rather than limit it.
