ACUD Macht Neu presents a night w/ three formidable turntablists and DJs in their own right, showcasing the possibilities of abstract/experimental turntablism. Polands DJ Morgiana will present a workshop on the topic followed by a club night which will feature her as well as DJ Marcelle, mistress of the pan-genre triple turntable and a set by American conceptual sound artist / DJ Maria Chavez.

DJ MARCELLE [ANOTHER NICE MESS]
Surprise, adventure, entertainment and education: Four key words often used for describing Dutch DJ and producer Marcelle/Another Nice Mess. Using live (and in the studio) three turntables, Marcelle takes her mix talents to high heights. She is as much, or even more of, a musician as she is a DJ. She is an original, skilled mixer, with a very distinctive style of her own, avoiding most DJ-cliches and stale rules.
As much inspired by avant garde art movements as fluxus and dada, the real life absurdism of Monty Python as by the wild experiments of dub, post-punk and the latest developments in electronic dance music Marcelle has always been following musical developments very closely and has a keen ear for innovative and new sounds. She strongly believes in the excitement and artfulness of creation and development.
With her extensive record collection of some 20,000 vinyl and counting, Marcelle has a strong historical knowledge of past and contemporary underground music. She also produces her own music; on the German label Jahmoni she has started putting out a series of vinyl only releases. Marcelle also does weekly and monthly radio shows for various radio stations in Europe.
DJ Morgiana / Karolina Karnacewicz
Ze is interested in abstract turntablism, experiments with voice using extended vocal techniques. Seeing it as a primordial instrument, ze sometimes groans, at other refers to mantras and also produces small sounds (akin to ASMR). This brings feeling of ancient spells and atmosphere of tribal ritual. Chosen crystals and minerals have a prominent place in hir performances. Ze weaves in their sounds with handmade theremin, contact mics which also transmits vibrations of organic ingredients and various objects.
DJ Maria Chavez
Maria Chávez, born in Lima, Peru, and based in NYC, is best known as an abstract turntablist, conceptual sound artist and DJ. As a DJ, Maria has shared her expansive music collection of techno and house music alongside iconic electronic musicians and DJs like; Simian Mobile Disco, Demdike Stare, Powell and Tim Sweeney. She has DJ’d all over the world, most recently in Moscow (Dewars Powerhouse), Lisbon (Galerie ZDB), Basel (Kaskadenkondensator Gallery) and Istanbul (Pendor Corner). Her DJ mixes can be heard via her Soundcloud page along with DJing for radio spots at the Lot Radio (Brooklyn, NY), NTS radio, NNWR (New New World Radio) Moscow and more.
