Though kaleidoscopically varied, Koch ́s work is held together by a playful sense of experimentation and a willingness to explore new landscapes of sound through an experimental approach and applying varying production techniques to expand and further his already broad sonic palette.

    ACUD BACKYARD SUMMER X MUSIC POOL: ORGANIZING YOUR OWN SHOW

    You want to play a concert and are looking for bookings? How about organising your own show? Maybe inviting others along?

    At this Music Pool evening we want to look into the ins and outs of organizing a concert and the different activities associated with it: finding the right venue, making a budget, dealing with Gema, insurance etc., renting equipment, putting a team together, making a lineup, promoting the show and so on. In particular, we want to look at concerts at a smaller scale. We have invited concert organisers to share their experiences and insights with you from their different perspectives – booking shows in a venue, promoting concerts of other bands, and organising shows as a musician.

    This Music Pool evening is part of the ACUD backyard summer and will be outside in nice weather.

    Free Entry.
    No Registration needed.

    DJ KATAPILA
    The Ghanaian DJ/producers marathon, relentlessly joyful DJ sets have swiftly become a thing of legend: splicing the neo-traditional dance music styles of his youth in Accra with the uptempo, bass-heavy, Roland 808-rooted sounds of Detroit techno, Chicago acid and ecstatic 90s chart house, Katapila adorns his killer selections with live electronic percussion and vocal interjections that help galvanise waves of full-blown euphoria wherever he plays.

    GHANA IS THE FUTURE
    by Peter Guyer and Thomas Burkhalter, CH 2015, (O/Engl), 25 min. Synopsis: The FOKN Bois raise money for the United States of America in the streets of Ghana. Their provocative motto: «Africa is on the way up, and the US are on the way down.» This short movie shows how these two rappers compete with, against and within various growing markets in Ghana: new churches like the «Alive Chapel International», and mobile phone companies like «Glo Mobile». This is an XL-teaser for the forthcoming long film project “contradict – aka Sound Translations” shot in Accra. // Musikfilm-FestivalNorient

    INFO

    LUC LE TRUC
    With his Hamburg based francophil “Je Danse Donc Je Suis”-parties, Luc Le Truc made a 13 years long warm-up for giving you some ARROGANCE. Meanwhile he made stopovers i.a. at the Plötzlich or Fusion Festival and Clubs like Golden Pudel. The frenchymusicmadness started back in the 90s with the synthpopboygroup Les Frères Checkolade and the still existing radioshow “multiplication de l’amusement” on FSK 93,0. Trippy, hypnotic, hot like you and cold as ice, but most important: with attitude – this is how Luc Le Truc likes it and this is how his track selection will be for ARROGANCE.

    M.A.R.E.C
    Some say, French hip-hop is the second best in the world, French people say its the N°1… Sure you’ve heard of IAM, NTM, Booba and so on but have you heard of Jordee, Kekra, Hamza, PNL, MHD and all the others? M.A.R.E.C a la recette! Prepare to get some slap in the face with the finest and most banging hip-hop, rap, trap, cloud & afro from France and Francophonie, from the 90’s to yesterday, delivered as if it was a beautiful plate of cheese: from everywhere, everything tasty (maybe too much for you), sometimes stinky, taking a lot of room in your fridge but all beautiful in their own way. And trust me you’ll never get enough.

    HANDJERKS EP RELEASE

    On the debut 12˝ by Handjerks, ‘Indexical’ (New Pangea), dissonant folk intersects with glowing puffs of synthesizers, and dumpster-dived percussion reenacts medieval breakbeats, while a mournfully rich voice recites emotional manifestos. Handjerks’ adventurous sonic world was rendered into HD by producer Sam Slater, and outside of the studio, Handjerks have performed most recently at Torstraßen Festival amongst the likes of Devon Welsh (Majical Cloudz) and Steven Warwick (Heatsick).

    ABOUT

    WATAR – JUNDI MAJHUL
    … a Syrian rapper/musician, started his music journey back in 2008, and continues today to deliver his political/social messages by bringing a tinged mellow groove, accompanied by smooth flow that makes his production an easy listening music with heavy content. He is releasing his first solo album ”El-Mahatta L’ hula” (The First Station) at the end of June 2017 and it’s going to be the official Album launch party.

    //

    BU KOLTHOUM
    … a Syrian Producer/Mc that combines the dark sounds, Arab samples and boom bap hardbody beats with conscious lyrics and poetry under a comedic awkward cover.
    His stage name, Bu Kolthoum, is a tribute to Um Kulthoum, the famed Egyptian singer, and Bin Kulthoum, an Arab warrior and poet from the pre-Islamic era. His lyrics often reflect frustration with the ongoing conflict in Syria and the emotions of leaving home and being in exile. He released his first solo album, ”Inderal”, in November 2015, earning international recognition both as a producer and a rapper. and his new album ”Bo’Bo” is planned to be released at the end of August 2017.

    //

    CHYNO
    In a region where hip hop is still largely unchartered territory, CHYNO (Syria/Lebanon) has broken new ground on all fronts. The Syrian-Filipino has lived all over the world and his debut solo album,”Making Music to Feel at Home” , deals with his consequent feelings of disenfranchisement and marginalization through a hip hop perspective. A range of soulful vocals, upbeat electro-synth kicks, ambient guitar riffs and Chynos powerful MC skills create the landscape for the various ways in which the artist is musically recreating home. In 2017, he released a 9-track EP, titled ”El Dahleen”, which featured seven artists, seven distinct sounds, and follows the journey of the “El Dahleen” series. and currently working on a new EP called “The Merchants of Menace”.

    //

    STORMTRAP ASIFEH
    … is a music producer/MC from Palestine. Experimenting with old samples, instruments, and field recordings, and combining all that with hip hop beats. His lyrics deal with different themes inspired mainly by his personal experiences in Palestine. Stormtrap played a fundemental role in forming the band Ramallah Underground, with which he has performed worldwide.

    //
