    ABOUT

    THE NAMES
Post punk cult band The Names started in the winter of 1977-1978 as The Passengers, gathering immediate attention on the Brussels scene and from the local press. In 1979, after a series of successful gigs and a crucial step by playing as opening act for Magazine, they recorded a first E.P. (« Spectators Of Life ») that attracted the interest of Manchester’s prominent label Factory Records. After reuniting for the hugely successful Factory Night in December of 2007, the Brussels based band has since then released a live-music DVD (“Nighshift”, on LTM) and a new CD album entitled “Monsters Next Door” (on Str8line Records). The Names’ line up features original members of the band Michel Sordinia (vocals and bass guitar) and Marc Deprez (guitars), with Laurent Loddewijckx on drums, Vincent Lesceux on bass, and Julien Van Aerschot on keyboards.

    AIR CUSHION FINISH
… formed in Berlin in 2007 and comprises of composer/player jayrope and natural vocal synthesizer Lippstueck, who had enjoyed playing Berlin’s underground together since the 1990s. Lippstueck prominently sings, wordless and backwards in time, while his partner jayrope tends to also appreciate any DIY, electronic, string or percussion instrument small enough to fit into a single suitcase altogether. Changing setup and subsequently music is programmatic to them, as well as having friends as guest musicians, all resulting into an unforeseeable slow motion cacophony of whispers, bleeps, rhythms and harmonies. There’s a notion of Dada, but you never know.

After seven albums and following a friendly invitation by members of GY!BE, they recorded at Montreal’s renowned Hotel2Tango studio with Thierry Amar in 2014. Flink was the result of this session, an immersively psychedelic (sweet, rather than head-frying) world unto themselves, sensitively placing Lippstueck’s flighty vox – which range from Schwitters-esque gibber to avian and ecclesiastical runs – drifting around the centre of a sound sphere pieced together from intricately laced rhythmic mechanisms, reverberant dub basses and insectoid blues. // Homepage

Dystopian sisters throw out some distant de-stabilisers aimed right between the eyes of a world in disarray. You’re on your own and you like it.

Shari Vari – The electronic based pop group founded by Helena Ratka and Sophia Kennedy – are about to release their first EP ‘Life Should Be a Holiday’ which contains 5 pieces of music that oscillate between songwriting and a more club based track character.

    ABOUT

Every piece on ‘Life Should Be a Holiday’ has a way of dealing with traditional forms of songwriting, breaking those rules and structures while combining psychedelic lyrics and chords with dark electronic sounds and weird, stubborn beats.

You are going to have a teenage crush on a white cat on a roof, while drowning in a pool and who ever can write a song „while checking the phone“, needs to have at least one fan.

Looking forward to plunge into the world of “Shari Vari”, so hit the booze and run (to the concert)!

The night is rounded out by Greek-born ABYSS X, who released “Mouthed” on Halcyon Veil in 2016 and Berlin-via-Tunisia DJ Cera Khin who is a Noods Radio resident and has made great mixes for Berceuse Heroique and Cashmere Radio.

    ABOUT

    ZULI
Cairo-based ZULI debuted on Lee Gamble’s UIQ label with the Bionic Ahmed EP to resounding acclaim from JUNO, Fact, and The Vinyl Factory in early 2016. In Cairo he’s a key player in the KiK (Kairo is Koming) group and one of the heads behind the city’s pivotal collective, VENT, as documented by Resident Advisor, where he’s founded a beacon for Egyptian electronic music.

With DJ support by Demdike Stare and Kode9 on Radio 1, ZULI’s debut 12″ covers a unique electronic perspective taking cues from classic UK rufige and Æ’s computer music as well as hip hop. You can hear those disparate junctures in his wicked takeover for Lee Gamble’s NTS show, his JunoPlus podcast, his own monthly NTS show and soon enough on his upcoming 12″s on UIQ and VENT’s label (launching 2017).

    ABYSS X
2016 found Evangelia VS, the Cretan-born, New York-based artist who produces and performs as Abyss X with two releases: the highly esoteric EP ‘Mouthed’ on Rabit’s imprint Halcyon Veil and the riotous mini album ‘Nüshu’ via prestigious club label Infinite Machine.
