ABOUT
The mouthorgans of South-east Asia are supposed to be the ancestors of the European Organ. Several models of mouthorgans exist among so many traditions of ethnic minorities inhabiting the Zomian highlands.
Introducing the Mbouat (6 bamboo tubes inserted in a gourd as resonance box) of the Bunong in Cambodia, the Qeej (6 bamboo tubes inserted in a wooden box as resonance box) of the Hmong in Laos and Vietnam, the Khene (14 or 16 bamboo tubes inserted in a wooden box as resonance box) of various Laotian ethnic groups in Laos, the Gue (various mouthorgans of different sized of 6 bamboo tubes inserted in a wooden box as resonance box) of the Galao & Hmong in China, the Fulu (a 5 bamboo tubes mouthorgan mounted on a small guard) of the Lisu in Thailand and more.

From 2000 till 2014 LAURENT JEANNEAU was based in South-East Asia recording the music, songs and rituals of traditional cultures rooted in the remote Hinterlands. In as series of 5 events he presents the music of these historical areas of refuge also called the Zomian highlands.
