The art of singing, the singing patterns and the improvised content of the songs were fully developed by so many traditions of ethnic minorities inhabiting the Zomian highlands.
 
Introducing the BAOZOO (a cappella love song of 2 women and a man) of the MIEN (YAO or ZAO), the HUNGA (a cappella love song) of HMONG women in northern VIETNAM, the love songs with stringed instruments of GUM (DONG) man and woman in Guizhou CHINA, the a cappella polyphonies of LALUO (YI) 5 women in Yunnan CHINA, the responsive singing with stringed instruments of TAMPOON men and women in Ratanakiri CAMBODIA, or the responsive singing between a TA OI man with mouthorgan and a woman in Saravan LAOS.

From 2000 till 2014 LAURENT JEANNEAU was based in South-East Asia recording the music, songs and rituals of traditional cultures rooted in the remote Hinterlands. In as series of 5 events he presents the music of these historical areas of refuge also called the Zomian highlands .
