    BAYONNE
    Roger Sellers is a lot of things. He’s a minimalist composer with a knack for making hypnotic, enveloping songs from a few repeated musical phrases. He’s a gifted musician who is mostly self-taught, having abandoned formal study because it was draining the life from his work. He’s a self-described disciple of Phil Collins. What he is not, however — despite multiple press reports to the contrary — is a DJ. Sellers’ debut as Bayonne, is a rich, complex work, the kind with no clear rock parallel. In its winding, maze-like structures are hints of both Steve Reich and Owen Pallett, each instrument working a single melodic pattern over and over and over, as Sellers threads his soft, reedy voice between them.

    //

    SIR WAS
    … is the musical journey of Joel Wästberg, documenting a wealth of unique & idiosyncratic influences. Growing up in the tiny village of Frillesås on the western coast of Sweden, he had an early career as a jazz saxophonist that led to studying in Gothenburg (where he lives now) and an influential time at the University of Kwasulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. From there he started focusing more on drums, and immersed himself in discovering pan-African rhythms & sounds, traveling through Mozambique and Zimbabwe, finding musical inspiration all along the way. The resulting range of styles is as uncommon and refreshing as the story might suggest. It is intricate without feeling complex, with driving beats and dynamically varied instrumentation weaving throughout.

    ABOUT

    FELIX RÄUBER
    … is a singer, composer and producer known as the frontman of the electropop band Polarkreis 18 (Allein, Allein). His musical sound is a unique blend of pop, neoclassical and electronic. On his solo debut, ‘WALL’, he grapples with personal and political boundaries, inspired by his travels to the Middle East. Musically he is between artists such as Nils Frahm, Moderat or Radiohead, and has collaborated with star violinist Daniel Hope and singer-songwriter Scott Matthew. Räuber creates epic soundscapes on his debut EP, carried by his powerful, fragile voice in a style described as ‘Cinematic Pop’. This is Felix looking back and consolidating on an exciting and diverse 20-year musical career.

    Paper and Iron presents: The Berlin debut of the New York singer-songwriter Common Holly.

    //

    COMMON HOLLY
    Born in New York and raised in Montreal, Common Holly (AKA Brigitte Naggar) puts unpredictable compositional elements into a singer-songwriter/folk framework, packaged in textured, eclectic electro-acoustic production. Her album, Playing House, contemplates the notion that it is conscious thought and deliberate action that defines and cements maturation from child to adult.

    //

    RU
    … is a Swedish singer, songwriter and lyricist, currently based in Berlin. Her music may be described as a subtle blend of experimental artpop and timeless folk, with influences found in artists such as Vashti Bunyan, José González, Sigur Rós and alike. Her sound explores the contrast between harmonious vocals, haunting melodies and atmospheric guitars with a storytelling speaking of Scandinavian wilderness and cold, roiling seas. The debut EP Hunter and Prey, was released in April 2017, and since then Ru has constantly been playing live, either as a solo act or with band. Currently she is working on her first full length album to be released in 2018

    Ed performed solo for 3 years traveling the country with his voice and a drum. He was asked to play a rave in Baltimore. Looking to expand his performance, he asked Devlin to join him onstage with his bass. Since then the two have been making rock music of the finest variety, with their sights on the world.
    “Riddles,” the first Ed Schrader’s Music Beat release for Carpark Records, begins their new life. In search of a fresh direction, Ed and Devlin invited their close friend, electronic-pop maestro Dan Deacon, to expand their sound and experiment with them as the album’s producer, arranger, and co-writer.

(Crystal Castles, Kontravoid). They perform live as a duo, with Angela writing and singing vocals, intertwining flute melodies and synths, while Jason plays mesmerising and catchy guitar melodies and deep rhythmic bass lines. They are now working to finish the second studio album called Sliding Lines LP, which is a rather raw and stripped down version of the first.
