    ABOUT

    THE AUTUMN SIGHS

    JAGUWAR
    … began life as a trio, formed in Berlin by Oyèmi and Lemmy in 2012. Their drummer Chris signed up in 2014 to complete the current line-up. Thus far they have released two EPs on the US label Prospect Records and have played countless shows in the UK, Denmark, France, Serbia, Germany and beyond. They have shared the stage with acts like We Were Promised Jetpacks, Japandroids and The Megaphonic Thrift, resulting in many happy faces and ringing ears. In 2017, armed with an impressive array of effect devices, guitars, bass and amps, backed up by a prodigious supply of coffee and cigarettes, they decamped to the Tritone Studio in the idyllik environs of Hof, Bavaria, to record what would become “Ring Thing”. Typically for the genre, they crafted layer upon sonic layer. No less typically, deadlines were not always adhered to. But it has been well worth the wait: more noise than ever and even more pop. “Noise & detail” is how the band describe their sound. “Ring Thing” is a shimmering, reverberating, crashing monolith of an album. Jaguwar sway from combining saccharine pop with Amphetamine Reptilien noise to sounding like a serendipitous encounter between The Cure, My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Prepare to expect the unexpected from their meandering song structures. Successfully unshackled from their paragons, the trio’s sui generis sound is destined to be heard all over the world. At thunderous volume!

    LINDA GUILALA
    After the split of Juniper Moon at the end of 2005, Ivan (former drummer and founder of the band) and Eva (the keyboard player who performed with the band in their last few shows), started their new adventure under the name of „Linda Guilala“. After a time working on new and old songs they published “Bucles infinitos” (Elefant, 2009). Twelve songs in which they combined shoegazers atmospheres with that maximum freshness in their tunes and twee passion with wishes for the most classic pop, the luminous techno-pop with that irremediable punk touch. Their influences go from My Bloody Valentine or Ride to the classicism of The Wedding Present or the elegance or melancholy of Pale Saints. In 2014 they published a new EP in 10” transparent vinyl: “Xeristar” (Elefant, 2014). Six new compositions, intense, electrifying, ranging from the furious to the narcotic, that sound like Los Planetas, Clinic and the most spatial and ultrasonic Spiritualized. Reminiscences of The Charlottes and echoes of Beach House. The presentation of “Xeristar” let them play in numerous venues and festivals throughout the country, sharing line-up with The Primitives at an Elefant party and inviting them to play in two indiepop festivals in Germany (Berlin & Cologne). Currently they continue playing with the help of Mari (Visceral Eyes) on the guitar for their live performances, while they are working on new songs that will be published very soon.

    ANTONIO ZELADA OF RESPLANDOR SOLO SHOW [Lima/Peru]
    This year 2017 has been the return of the band to live shows, sharing stage with Slowdive in Lima, after having played with The Cure at the National Stadium in Peru in 2013. Robin Guthrie, founder and guitarist of the mythical Cocteau Twins, produced their last album Pleamar. It was presented with The House of Love and The Jesus & Mary Chain in Lima. The band has gone on tour promoting their album Pleamar, as well as their two previous albums, playing at festivals like SXSW in Austin, Texas in 2010 and 2011, Culture Collide Festival in Los Angeles in 2012, etc., as well as tours in different cities in North America and South America. In Lima, they have also opened up the shows for Ulrich Schnauss, Robin Guthrie, Mark Gardener (Ride), The Radio Dept. and more. They are currently recording their new album, the same that will be released by Saint Marie Records worldwide in the first half of 2018.

    NORTHERN SOUL MEETS OTIS REDDING

    Sat 09.12 22:00 // CLUB NIGHT // ACUD CLUB
    NORTHERN SOUL MEETS OTIS REDDING

    Nach eineinhalb Jahren ist der Northern Soul Allnighter zurück im ACUD Club. Und das zu einem denkwürdigen Datum: den 9. Dezember! Am 10. Dezember 1967, also exakt 50 Jahren, stürzte das Flugzeug mit Otis Redding und den Bar-Kays an Bord in den Lake Monona. Eine Sonderausgabe im Gedenken und zum Dank an Otis Redding und die Bar-Kays, an Satellite, Stax und Volt. Zwischen klassischem Northern, Modern und Tamla Motown wird es dieses Mal deshalb mehr bluesy, rockig und deep als sonst, mit Stücken von Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Johnny Taylor und vielen anderen.

    //

    After one and a half years break the Northern Soul Allnighter is back. That needs desperately to be celebrated and the hosts have chosen a very special night to do so: 9 December 2017. On 10 December 1967, Otis’ aeroplane carrying the Bar-Kays and himself crashed into Lake Monona. This allnighter will be a ‘special edition’ to commemorate and thank Otis Redding and the Bar-Kays, Satellite, Stax and Volt records. Beyond northern and modern soul and Tamla Motown this allnighter will be more bluesy, rocky and deep than usual with gems by Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Johnny Taylor and many more.

    //

    ABOUT

    Otis Reddings erste Veröffentlichung bei Stax war These Arms Of Mine auf Volt 103 im November 1962, das es auf Platz 20 der R&B- und Platz 85 der Pop-Charts schaffte. Nur fünf Jahre später, erst 26 Jahre jung, wurde Otis Redding The Big O und King of Soul genannt, in einem Atemzug zum Beispiel mit Sam Cooke und Ray Charles. Vielen gilt er als der bedeutendste Soul-Sänger aller Zeiten. Und Otis war nicht nur ein begnadeter Sänger, sondern auch der erste afroamerikanische Musikstar, der selbst eine Holding für seine diversen Unternehmungen gründete und leitete, er wollte zeitweise eine Gewerkschaft zur Unterstützung mittelloser schwarzer Musiker gründen, sprach darüber unter anderem mit Solomon Burke und James Brown (der dagegen war), und war als Mitglied der Stax-Familie ein bedeutender Teil der Bürgerrechtsbewegung. 1967 verkaufte er nach Medienangaben mehr Singles als Frank Sinatra und Dean Martin zusammen und verdiente durch Konzerte 35.000 Dollar pro Woche.

    Das Unglück ereignete sich bei schlechtem Wetter während einer Konzert-Tour, mit der auch die in den Wochen zuvor in den Stax-Studios eingespielten neuen Songs promotet wurden, auf dem Weg zu einem Auftritt im Factory Nachtklub in Madison wenige Kilometer vor dem Ziel. Die Aufnahmen wurden posthum von Atlantic auf Atco veröffentlicht. Heute samt und sonders Klassiker, war darunter auch der wohl beliebteste Soul-Song aller Zeiten, der erste von 2 Crossover-Nummer-1-Hits für Stax (Sittin on) The Dock of the Bay. Nur den Staple Singers gelang dies 1972 mit Ill Take You There ebenfalls.

    Die Bar-Kays formierten sich 1966 als Stax-Studioband. Gleich ihre erste Single Soul Finger erreichte 1967 Platz 3 der R&B- und Platz 17 der Pop-Charts. Bei dem Absturz kamen die vier Bandmitglieder Jimmy King, Phalon Jones, Ronnie Caldwell und Carl Cunningham, ihr Angestellter Matthew Kelly und der Pilot Richard Fraser ums Leben. Die beiden anderen Bar-Kays, Ben Cauley und James Alexander, reformierten die Band, die noch heute tourt.

    ABOUT

    CORPS

    Alexey Tegin is a veteran of Moscow underground scene and a pioneer of Russian industrial music. Passing through rock and avant-garde jazz, Tegin is experimenting since the ´80s with different projects. He founded the Factory of cardinal art and, in the ´90s, the ensemble Phurpa, famous for practicing meditative throat singing. Based on the rituals of the Bon, a corpus of pre-bhuddist shamanic traditions, Phurpa has gained international attention in both the music and the theatre scene, collaborating with renewed and transgressive directors as Castellucci. Corpse was the first project in Tegin´s career. Deeply rooted in his industrial research, the project is still active alongside the spiritual ensemble of Phurpa. The paradox is apparent only: according to Tegin´s words, the two projects own the same inner need but with a different historical reference. Corpse suggests a state of quiet ecstasy and estrangement, a practice that aims to erasethe paranoia of the present through pure sound and its vibrations. Born from radical experimentations and evolved for meditative exigences, Tegin associates the disengagement from reality -proper of trance techniques- with the roaring and alienating noises of industrial.

    NEOFAKT: ANDRÉ UHL ALBUM RELEASE

    Awake at an undefined hour. Floating between the realm of dreams and open awareness. Accept it — you’re a headspace passenger. Talking to a machine is a thrill for a moment or two. You want to go out, need to get lost. It’s still yet all under the surface … but you know it’s going to happen, eventually. What you need to do is: return to the same old place. What you think is: I hope the roof flies off, and I get sucked up into space.

She trained at London’s Royal Academy of Music and for the last 12 year has been performing and making experimental works for record, live and film, presented for example at Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, House of Electronic Arts in Basel, or the James Cohen Gallery in New York. ANDRÉ UHL
    … is a musician and futurist born in Essen and based in Berlin. André merges noise and synthesizer lines converging them into dark, driving and cinematic pieces of music. His productions combine detailed and spatial audio design with simple, yet haunting melodies. André holds a master’s degree in futures research, a fact that reflects in his compositions and leaves traces in his sound: tales of the hazy past and the twilight of the future. His strong live performances have seen him play at Volksbühne Berlin, Supynes Festival in Lithuania and Les Digitales in Switzerland. His collaboration with video artist Jem the Misfit, the Creatures live AV show, was selected for the Mapping Festival in Geneva. André’s debut album “I hope the roof flies off, and I get sucked up into space.”, released on November 17th on Neofakt, is accompanied by a booklet of 13 short stories, each by a different writer.

    ABOUT

    MICHAEL SPEERS
    is a musician from Northern Ireland, currently based in London. Feedback is the basis of most of his practice, using the limitations of himself and electronic / acoustic equipment – namely percussion, no-input mixer, sampled media, test equipment and field recordings – to depict his engagement with reality through sound phenomena. The resultant soundscape is generally dense and abrasive, focussing on texture and spatial / material resonance, which is formed live in improvised performances and in electronic compositional work. // More Info

    //

    JAMES K
    is the solo act of New York / Berlin based musician Jamie Krasner. James Ks album PET came out in April 2016, released through Dial and Jamie Krasner’s own She Rocks!. PET follows up a handful of EPs and singles that Krasner has either self-released or presented through UNO NYC, as well as two releases as one half of SETH, her project with fellow New York musician Gobby. Most recently, James K was involved with Berlin based label PAN by contributing her song Stretch Deep featuring Eve Essex to the celebrated PAN mixtape Mono No Aware, released in March of this year, featuring PAN signed and associated artists.

    //

    AUSSCHUSS
    Berlin-based, UK-raised Ausschuss is a 20-year-old producer working with dark, industrial-influenced sounds through abrasive textures and sound design. His often foreboding and overtly tense productions such as Mantle and Regolith fluctuate between dystopian, mechanical movements as well as more unnerving human elements from breathy utterances to almost melodic chopped up vocals. Having already been enlisted for mixes by the likes of London-based boutique Primitive to Disc Magazine and Astral Plane, alongside reworkings and remixes of Scintii, Soda Plains and Acre.

    FLORA YIN-WONG
    London-born producer, writer and DJ, Flora Yin-Wong (aka ||FLORA) works with field recordings, dissonance, and influences from contemporary club culture. Her debut EP ‘City God’, a tape release on New Yorks PTP, was inspired by Daoist traditions in regards to tutelary deities and the afterlife, using distorted sounds from temples, and traditional Cantonese/Eastern concepts. She has since featured on Berlin label PAN’s mono no aware double LP with the ambient track Lugere. Besides remixes for the likes of Eaves, Scintii, and Halcyon Veil’s Celyn June, she has also contributed to Ziùr’s Co-Op release alongside the likes of M.E.S.H., GIL, and Why Be, and Lara Rix-Martin’s Objects Limited imprint ft. Coucou Chloe and KABLAM. Due later on Caridad Records this summer will be a composition piece made up of seven layers of a violin she played, recorded and processed, released alongside the likes of Lolina, Dedekind Cut and IVVVO. Earlier this year, she was invited to curate a show at London’s Cafe OTO to perform her debut live show, as well as also supporting Kara Lis-Coverdale. Besides previously DJing at the likes of Berghain, and Bloc for PANs showcases, to across the UK, Antwerp, Copenhagen, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Beijing and Sydney, she has also guested on shows on NTS Live, Boiler Room, Radar, and BCR. // More Info

    LUGH
    Musician and audiovisual artist Lugh has performed and exhibited primarily in London and Berlin, as well as in Ireland, Switzerland, Italy and Portugal. Lugh composes sonic material which navigates the uncanny valley, the eerie and evocative space formed by the overlap between what is recognisably human tangible and familiar and the aseptic sterility of the digital – the separation of which is continuously and progressively challenged. Lugh performs as a solo act, as well as contributing to various audiovisual projects, such as Sinae Yoos, The Dead by Many Firsts, shown at The Gallery Apart, Rome, and also co-hosts the collective effort which is CANVAS.

    PÁNICA
    … refers to the Panic Movement, a collective formed by Alejandro Jodorowsky and his fellows, Roland Topor and Fernando Arrabal. Their ambition was to critique the pure reason, going insane, facing the audiences passivity, attacking them with a barrage of radical, iconoclastic, rhythmic stimuli, to show another perspective is still possible. Pánica has the aim to convert years of experience in a new open-minded entity.
